PEORIA – George M. Hoerr, 88, of Peoria, peacefully entered his heavenly home on Wednesday, July 14, 2021 at OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home in Peoria. George was born on February 6, 1933 in Peoria to David A. and Rose (Yoder) Hoerr. He married Kathryn Lou Baer on December 19, 1953 in Roanoke. They spent 59 years together dedicated to spreading the Word of God and building their family. George’s favorite verse was Joshua 24:15. Katie preceded him in death on January 26, 2012.
George was also preceded in death by his parents; five brothers; two sisters; granddaughter, Tara Marie Hoerr; and two grandsons, Quentin George Kellem and Thomas Mark “Tommy” Hoerr. He is survived by his 12 children, George R. (Jeanne) Hoerr of Virginia Beach, VA, Betty (Ken) Downing of Brimfield, Bill (Linda) Hoerr of Edwards, Fred Hoerr of Los Angeles, CA, Bonnie (Charles) DePalma of Brimfield, Ted (Carly) Hoerr of Ozark, MO, Gary (Rosalba) Hoerr of Emporia, KS, Matt Hoerr of Eldon, MO, Mark (Shelli) Hoerr of Brimfield, Sarah (Jim) Borop of Peoria, Sam (Jodi) Hoerr of West Des Moines, IA, and Annie Kellem of Edwards; 37 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren; one brother, John Hoerr; three sisters, Millie Moser, Florence Barkley, and Eloise Meister; and many nieces and nephews.
George served his country in the United States Air National Guard for nine years, from the age of 16. He was a graduate of Woodruff High School and salutatorian of his class at Tennessee Temple Bible College. He continued his studies at Fort Wayne Bible College and went on to be a pastor and evangelist for many revival meetings in Missouri and throughout the Midwest. George and Katie were always quick to light up a room with song, he strumming his guitar and both harmonizing familiar hymns. During their time in Missouri, George was owner and operator of George Hoerr Excavating, working with several of his sons. After the family moved back to Illinois, George was a minister at the former Twelve Oaks Apostolic Christian Church in Peoria. During his retirement, George enjoyed traveling with Katie in their motor home, teaching bible studies and writing. George is a member of the Peoria Apostolic Christian Church.
Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Sunday, July 18, 2021 at Davison-Fulton-Woolsey-Wilton Funeral Home in Peoria. An additional visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Monday, July 19, 2021 at Bethany Baptist Church 7422 N Heinz Ln, Edwards, IL 61528. Funeral Service will follow at 11:00 a.m., also at Bethany Baptist Church. Matt Feucht and Ken Hoerr will officiate. Interment will take place at the Apostolic Christian Church Cemetery in Edwards. Memorials may be made to Apostolic Christian Skylines or the OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home.
