Peoria – Edith Ellen Plattner, 86, of Peoria, IL went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, at 12:10 p.m., Tuesday, February 28, 2023. She passed away peacefully at OSF Hospital surrounded by her loving family.
She was born March 14, 1936 at home in East Lynn, IL, the daughter of Sam and Gertrude (Young) Hodel. She married Kenneth Earl Plattner on April 22, 1956 in Hoopeston, IL. He preceded her in death.
Surviving are her loving daughter, Cynthia (Douglas) Streitmatter of Princeville, IL; and four wonderful grandchildren, whom she dearly loved, Rachel (Jimmy) Sutter of Palmyra, MO, Chelsea (Craig) Huber of Alto, MI, Whitney (Tate) Taufer of Colorado Springs, CO, and Blake Streitmatter of Peoria, IL; and four beloved great grandchildren, Presley, Bentley, Finnley Sutter, and Sage Huber.
Edith is survived by four sisters, Ethel Waibel (her twin), Jeanette Hoerr, Rhoda Hess, Roma Rumbold; and three brothers Irvin (Sharon), Richard (Bonnie), and Marvin (Gail) Hodel all of Peoria area.
She was preceded in death by her loving parents, three wonderful sisters Rose Mary Stock, Barbara Schafer, and Dorothy Meister.
Edith enjoyed working at Caterpillar Tractor Inc for 5 years, at IL Valley Mental Health Assn. for 31 years, and Greeview Nursery for 7 years. She also enjoyed tending to her beautiful backyard flower garden.
She was a loving spouse and caregiver to her husband, Ken, who battled Parkinson’s disease for over 20 years, tenderly caring for him in their home.
She was a member of the Peoria Apostolic Christian Church, baptized along with her husband on November 26, 1966.
She loved spending time with her grandchildren doing crafts, going on walks to the park, tea parties with hot cocoa, and hosting her grandchildren’s themed birthday parties. She was a wonderful and fun Grandma.
We want to thank Edith’s loving caregiver and family friend, Carunica Bovan, for her kind and compassionate care in the last months of Edith’s life.
Her funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 4, 2023 at the Apostolic Christian Church, 3420 N. Sheridan Rd., Peoria, IL. Ministers of the church will officiate. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Friday, March 3 at Davison-Fulton-Woolsey-Wilton Funeral Home in Peoria and from 9-9:45 a.m. at the church on Saturday.
Burial will be in the Apostolic Christian Church Cemetery at Edwards, IL.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Berean Prison Ministries or AC Skylines Home Care.
