He was born on April 29, 1941 in Covington, Tennessee to Eddie D. and Sallie (Woods) Lewis. He married Tsitsi Majuru on July 13, 2008 in Peoria. She survives.
Also surviving are his children, Tonette Lewis Oliver, Antonio Lewis, Mariema Lewis, Tina Lewis, Tisha Lewis, Eddie Lewis Jr., Ricky Lewis, Eric Woodson, Bianca Woodson, Rufaro and Tendai; a host of grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He is preceded by his parents, and his sister Ruby Lee Austin.
Eddie proudly served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps, Reserves in and out for 29 years, and served in the U.S. Air Force until his retirement and honorable discharge in 2000. He served in combat in Vietnam for 2 years. Eddie was a sharp shooter and achieved several awards including Combat Action Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry with Palm, Vietnamese Service Medal, M-14 Rifle Marksman Badge, and more.
Eddie got to travel all over the world during his service. He travelled to the Philippines, and got to accompany the Navy in travel to Africa.
Eddie and Tsitsi were both active members of the Salvation Army. He also loved to spend his time watching cowboy movies.
A funeral service will be held at Davison-Fulton Woodland Chapel, on Friday, June 21, 2024 at 9:30am, with a visitation to start one hour prior at 8:30am. Burial will take place at Camp Butler Cemetery.
