Donald “Don” George Gorman age 84 of Peoria, IL, passed away at OSF St. Francis Hospital on Tuesday, September 27, 2011. He was born on February 16, 1927 in Peoria, IL son of John George and Emma Agnes McCorkle Gorman. They preceded him in death.
Also preceding him in death were his sister, Evelyn A. Gorman Boyce, and two brothers, John O. “Jack” Gorman and Robert L. “Bob” Gorman, a nephew, John “ Jack” Boyce, and a great-niece, Rebecca Taylor.
He is survived by two nephews; Larry (Ann) Gorman of Iowa City, IA, Jim (Mary) Gorman of Greenville, SC, one niece, Jean (Arthur) Taylor of St. Louis, MO, great-nephews, Joe (Lori) Boyce of Germantown Hills, IL, Eric Gorman of Chicago, IL, James Reid Gorman of Albany, GA, Kurt Gorman of Murray, KY, and several other great-nieces and nephews and cousins.
Don worked as a lab technician at Sealtest (formerly J.D. Roszell’s) and later Joan of Arc in Princeville, IL. He was a member of the Glen Oak Christian Church. Don was an excellent singer and soloist and was a member of the Bradley Community Chorus, the Morton Civic Chorus and also performed for local theatre groups. He won The Best Male Singer Award at the Peoria Area Music Festival for 2 years in the mid 1950’s.
Funeral Services will be on Saturday, October 1, 2011 at 12p.m. with a visitation from 10 a.m. to12 p.m. at Glen Oak Christian Church. Davison-Fulton-Woolsey-Wilton Funeral home is handling arrangements.
Burial of his ashes will be at a later date at Swan Lake Memory Gardens in Peoria, IL.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Glen Oak Christian Church’s Music Program, or the American Cancer Society.
