Cheryl Marie Cody 43, of Bartonville, formerly of Peoria, passed away Thursday, June 2, 2016 at Methodist Hospital in Peoria. Born December 15, 1972 in Peoria to Arthur J. and Jean (Huber) Athen; she married Jerry “Joe” Cody on February 22, 1999 in Peoria and he survives. Also surviving are her son, Jared Cody of Bartonville; sisters, Susan (Dan) Alwan of East Peoria and Michelle Athen (Al Jumer) of Peoria; brother, Robert Sr. (Monika) Athen of Peoria Heights; niece, Hannah Athen and nephew, Robert Athen Jr. Her parents and brother, Arthur Steven Athen, are predeceased. Cheryl was a homemaker who had a gift for handling and nurturing children and loved all creatures great and small. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 am Monday, June 6, 2016 at the Cathedral of St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception in Peoria with the Rev. Donald Henderson as celebrant. Visitation will be one hour prior to the Mass at the Cathedral. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery in West Peoria. Memorials are suggested to the National Diabetes Association.
