Born March 30, 1947 in Peoria to Orbie and Frances (Fawley) Ragains; he married Rocco Sansone on November 11, 2008 in San Francisco, CA.
Surviving are his husband of St. Petersburg; sister, Sally Monroe of Peoria; nephews, Tanner Monroe and Nathan (Heather) Monroe; uncle, James Fawley and numerous cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, John; brother-in-law, Gary Monroe; and aunt Irma Fawley.
Alan graduated from Limestone High School Class 1965, Illinois State University-Normal BA-Speech and Theater Class of 1969 and Bradley University Master’s- Speech and Theater Class of 1976.
Upon graduation from ISU, Alan returned to Limestone and enjoyed his passion of educating and ensuring his students were well taught. Alan always worked to bring out the best in his students, help them recognize their talents and motivating them to achieve their goals. During his time in Peoria, he enjoyed working in the family business, Moser’s Shoes.
He then was a Department Manager at Liberty House prior to joining the University of Hawaii as a professor.
Alan had a lifelong interest in historic preservation and was Past-President of the Peoria Historical Society and a member of Historic Hawaii. He was also passionate about the art of Bonsai and taught for many years on the subject. He was a member and Past-President of the Pacific Bonsai Club.
Funeral services will be at 6:00 pm Tuesday, May 23, 2023 at the Davison-Fulton Woodland Chapel, 2021 N University St. in Peoria. Visitation will be two hours prior to the service, 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm. Burial will be at Springdale Cemetery in Peoria with a graveside service at 11:00 am Wednesday, May 24.
