1922-2018
William Earl Caine, 95, went to his reward, a home in Heaven, to be with Jesus, family and friends who went before him. Born September 24, 1922 and raised in Alabama to Young Samuel Caine and Hattie Louise Caine, who preceded him in death, along with two wives, Minnie Louise Caine and Donna Marie Caine, as well as two brothers, two sisters and many aunts, uncles and cousins and a daughter, Delores Caine Whitson and grandson Hank Mixon.
Mr. Caine is survived by two children: Annette Castlen and Kenneth Caine, both of Pensacola, seven grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and one great, great-grandchild.
Earl was part of the greatest generation. Raised on a farm in Alabama, he graduated from high school in Georgiana. After that, he worked in the shipyard in Mobile, Alabama until World War II started and he joined the Marine Corp. After Boot Camp and further training, he joined the 1st Marine Division in the South Pacific where he took part in several invasions, including Cape Gloucester New Briton, Peleliu and Okinawa. He was a born-again Christian and, while being attacked by planes strafing the beach, he promised God if he got him out of this, he would serve him the rest of his life. He kept this promise.
He was a master mason over 50 years and Scottish Rite 32nd Degree. He retired from Champion Paper Company after 34 ½ years’ service.
Friends are cordially invited to join the family for a visitation on Thursday, March 22, 2018 from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at Eastern Gate Memorial Funeral Home, immediately followed by a service 11:00 a.m. and interment at Eastern Gate Memorial Gardens.
