Thursday, August 4, 2022. Ward was born October 2, 1933 in Wheeling, West Virginia to Louis
and Loma Ward Serig.
Ward was a resident of Mooseheart Child City and school in Aurora, Illinois for his middle
school and high school years. Ward graduated from Graceland Junior College in Lamoni, Iowa in
1953. After Graceland, Ward joined the navy and finished his bachelor’s degree at Florida State
University.
While Stationed at NAS Pensacola for flight training, Ward met the love of his life, Donnie Merle
Smith. They married October 30, 1955.
Ward was a decorated Vietnam War Veteran. In Vietnam, he flew helicopters with the Sea
Wolf Squadron. Ward served our country as the Executive Officer of Roosevelt Roads NAS in
Puerto Rico. After twenty-seven years of active duty he retired as the Executive Officer of
Whiting Field NAS. He immediately took on a second career as a private government
contractor training military pilots for over twenty-four years.
Ward was a lifelong member of the Community of Christ Church where he served as an
ordained minister in many different capacities.
Ward is preceded in death by his parents Louis and Loma Serig, beloved wife, Donnie Serig, four
brothers, Louis Albert “Buddy “ Serig, Charles “Bus” Serig, Jack Serig, and Joe Serig.
Ward is survived by his son Stephen Serig (Kathleen), Joy Wilson, Kendrick Serig (Lorrie), Julie
Mayo (Cliff). 10 grandchildren; Tyanna, Jillian, Nathaniel, Crystal, Lauren, Hannah, Avi, Kira,
Trustin and Carly. Two step grandchildren, Jesse and Sarah. 14 great grandchildren; James,
Michael, Abby, Jaxson, Micah, Noah, Olivia, Faith, Naomi, Collin, Finley, Torianna, Mila, Ezekiel,
and number 15 on the way. Two sisters-in-law, Joan and Bev, and numerous nieces and
nephews.
Visitation will be on Thursday, August, 11, 2022, from 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm at Bayview Fisher-Pou Chapel, 3351 Scenic Highway 90e, Pensacola, FL. A second viewing will be held Friday, August 12, 2022 at
Community of Christ Church 3190 E. Olive RD, Pensacola, FL at 10:00 am, service at 11:00 am.
Committal Service will be held on August 12, 2022 at 1:00 pm at Barrancas National Cemetery.
