Ruth Nadine Toepfer passed away July 25, 2013. Ruth was born in Monroe, Wisconsin to Henry and Minnie Leuzinger natives of Nafell and Canton, Switzerland. Ruth received her education in schools in the State of Wisconsin. Upon her marriage to Albert, they became a farming family in the Pearl City and Freeport, Illinois area. Upon her husbands’ retirement, Ruth and Albert moved to Tavares, Florida in 1959, where she was a Certified Cosmetologist for the next 14 years. In 1973, she and Albert moved to Pensacola to be nearer other family members. They were faithful members of Ferry Pass United Methodist Church, and Ruth was a member for over 35 years. She entertained at various Church functions playing the guitar or accordion while singing and yodeling. She served as President of the Golden Agers Group where she was “special” guest speaker at many functions. Her musical talents were passed onto her children where the “Toepfer Band” played County Fairs, Church gatherings and other events throughout Northern Illinois and Southern Wisconsin. Ruth was most proud of her 5 sons all of whom served in the Army, Navy, or Marines. She was extremely patriotic and flew the American flag at her home every day until illness prevented it.
Ruth will be remembered for her ready smile, wit and humor and her love for flowers and nature. Her compassion and generosity toward others will be missed by all whose lives she touched. The Family wishes to thank the Council on Aging for providing much needed help in the form of a senior companion. This was instrumental in allowing Ruth to reside at home for a much longer period of time during her illness. The family also wishes to thank the Management and Medical Staff at Bayside Manor for their loving care and compassion during Ruth’s stay at their facility.
Ruth was preceded in death by her husband Albert, eleven of her siblings (she being the last survivor), her son, Robert of Stoughton, Wisconsin; her son, Edward of Iowa, and daughter, Myrna Lee Tracy of Tampa, FL.
She is survived by her son, Ronald (Jane) Toepfer of Apple River, IL; daughter-in-law, Inez Toepfer of Stoughton, WI; son, Wayne (Jeanne) of Rockford, IL and son, Allan (Diane) Toepfer of Pensacola. Ruth also leaves 23 beautiful grandchildren, and 24 great grandchildren, so many nieces and nephews and oh so many friends, all of whom she cherished and loved with all of her heart.
