1923 - 2013
Ralph Lee Robbins, 90, died Monday, September 2, 2013, at a local hospital. Born in Oneida, Tennessee, on March 17, 1923, Mr. Robbins resided in Pensacola for the last forty years. He was predeceased by his loving wife, Sadie; his parents, Arphie and Joe Robbins, and two brothers and a sister. A member of the Greatest Generation, Mr. Robbins joined the Navy in 1943, where he was trained as a gunner. He spent the majority of World War II in the Pacific Theater on the USS O'Bannon, a highly decorated destroyer. Additionally, Mr. Robbins served his country during the Korean War and the Vietnam Conflict.
He is survived by his cousins, Ray Long and Larry Long of Florence, Kentucky; his stepdaughter, Carolyn Bray of Ogden, Utah; and his wife's niece and her husband, Peggy and Hubert Howard of Pensacola.
The funeral service will be held at 1:15 p.m., Friday, September 6, 2013, at Barrancas National Cemetery, on board NAS Pensacola.
