She was born to the late Clinton and Lela Mae Sanders in Pensacola, Florida. As a Navy brat the family moved numerous times but always returned home to Pensacola. After graduating from Pensacola High School she attended Florida State University where she was a member of the Gama Phi Beta Sorority and graduated with her BS in Nursing in 1962. Peggy pursued her nursing career working in hospitals in South Florida, Chicago, Illinois, and finally home to Pensacola. She retired after 25+ years from the then Medical Center Clinic in Pensacola, Florida.
Peggy’s unwavering faith in God and love of her family and friends carried her through a beautiful life. Peggy devoted her life to her family raising her daughter, caring for her parents, and later taking on the full time job of caring for her “sweetheart – light of her life” grandson until he started school. She had many cherished friends she loved spending time with going to lunches and movies. She touched so many lives with her kindness, generosity, and compassion.
Peggy’s love of history and love for our military men and women lead her to volunteer countless hours at the T.T. Wentworth Museum and the USO at NAS Pensacola. She also loved volunteering her time to help the teachers and read with the children at Redeemer Luther School where her grandson attended. She loved her church family at both Brownsville Baptist and then New Beginnings Baptist Church. She spent many years teaching Sunday school and as well as working in the kitchen on Wednesday nights prior to Prayer Meeting.
Peggy loved her Seminoles! She looked forward to each college football season watching and attending games with her family - especially with her favorite Son-in-law.
Peggy is proceeded in death by her parents, her brothers and sisters-in law, Ronnie and Dottie Sanders of Jacksonville, and Jerry and Billie Jean Sanders of Pensacola. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Sheri and Dan Hoffman, her grandson Colby Hoffman, niece Geri Castro (Hap Harris), nephew Mike and Valerie Sanders, niece Brenda and George Umberger, “adopted” daughter and son-in-law Rose Anne and Steve Stokes, and numerous great and great great nieces and nephews, and so many special friends.
