On Good Friday 15 April 2022, after a short illness, Michael George Walker passed from this life. We pray for God’s Mercy, and hope that, having been cleansed, Michael’s immortal soul will attain the heavenly goal.
Michael was born in New Orleans, and grew up in Louisiana and Mississippi. He attended Immaculata Seminary in Lafayette, Louisiana, where for several years he studied for the Roman Catholic priesthood. A graduate of Loyola University in New Orleans, Michael served his nation as a Marine Aviator in Vietnam. His service awards include the Distinguished Flying Cross. Michael married Yvonne Zoellner on 16 August 1969 and went on to spend more than 52 years together. In 1972 Michael joined Zoellner’s Music House in Pensacola, and remained with the piano firm until retirement. He has been a volunteer at the National Museum of Naval Aviation in Pensacola since 2008. Michael enjoyed writing, he read voraciously, and travelled world-wide with Yvonne. He was a “Myrtle Grove-class” gourmet cook, a piano technician, and an electronic music synthesis. With his family he was a devoted white-water rafter. He was a member of Little Flower Catholic Church in Pensacola since 1973.
Michael was preceded in death by his father and mother, Alvin Walker and Dorothy Mouton Walker, and his sister Nancy Walker.
He is survived by his loving wife Yvonne Colette Walker, daughter Catherine Stewart (husband Alex and grandson Wesley) of Belmont, N.C., son Philip (wife Kristin and grandchildren Brenna, Brice, Kendall and Kyle) of Katy, Texas, and son Jason (wife Melissa and grandchildren Katelyn and Brooklyn) of Frederick, Maryland. Additionally, he is survived by his younger brothers Thomas and Mark Walker along with many nieces and nephews.
