Mathilde (Hilde) Christiane Schmidt Martin, 92, went to be with the Lord on January 26, 2023. Hilde was born on March 24, 1930 in Biebrich, Germany to Sophia and Wilhelm Schmidt. She was the second oldest of four siblings.
Hilde was married to Benny Ray Martin, whom she met in Wiesbaden, Germany, in 1948, where Benny was stationed with the United States Air Force. Although they traveled back and forth numerous times between the various states and Europe, Hilde's favorite place was Pensacola, and she was very proud of her American citizenship.
Hilde loved spending time with her family. She was a devoted mother to her children and a loving grandmother to her fourteen grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.
Hilde was preceded in death by her husband Benny Ray Martin, her parents Sophia and Wilhelm Schmidt and her siblings Johanna Schmidt Kessler and Wilhelm Friedrich Schmidt.
Hilde is survived by her children Monika Martin Dombrosky (David), Benny Martin (Bonnie), Alexander Martin (Tami), Cynthia Martin Minor (Bob), Pamela Martin Lee (Ken), and Andrea Dove White (Hal). Hilde is also survived by her grandchildren Julie Vala (John), Jacyn Dombrosky (Shanalee), Kristie Rodrique (Beau), Ivonne Haskins (Carl), Krischan Martin, Brandi Duncan, Kelly Erwin (Jeff), Eli Martin, Christiana Garst (Robert), Alisa Blackman (Derek), Travis Minor, Benjamin Minor, Nathan (Keanna) Dove, and Abigail Dove. Hilde is also survived by her beloved great-grandchildren too numerous to list. She is survived by her sister, Magdalena Grantham and her many, many nieces and nephews here in the United States and Germany.
The family will greet friends at a Visitation for Mathilde on Tuesday, February 7, 2023, from 10:30 AM to 11:00 AM at Bayview Fisher-Pou Chapel, 3351 Scenic Highway 90e, Pensacola, FL 32503. A Funeral Service will follow at 11:00 AM. Rev. Joan Wooten of First Presbyterian Church, Pensacola, will provide over the service. A Burial will follow at Bayview Memorial Park, 3351 Scenic Highway 90e, Pensacola, FL 32503. Everyone is then invited to a reception in the Chapel.
