November 13, 1925
November 12, 2012
Mary Pauline Locke Timothy passed away peacefully, Monday, November 12, 2012 at home with her family by her side.
She was born November 13, 1925 to Joseph Elijah and Hattie Rosanna Smith Locke in South Alabama, where she grew up. In August 1945, she met the love of her life, James William (J.W.) Timothy and they were married just two weeks later. They were together for almost 57 years when he passed away in July 2002, less than a month shy of their anniversary.
She was a stay-at-home mom when her children were small but after they were all in school, she went to work at the Crossroads Café in Gonzalez. She worked there for several years before going to work at Vanity Fair Mills in Milton where she worked until she retired in April 1993.
Pauline, as she was known to family and friends, was a little lady with a big heart. She and J.W. opened their home on several occasions to friends and family needing a temporary place to live. She had a keen sense of humor and loved to make people laugh. She was a hugger and was called the “hug therapist” at her TOPS Chapter, where she was an active member for more than 35 years and an inspiration for other members.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, her parents, two half-brothers, G. W. Jeffers and L. B. Jefferies; and two brothers, Roscoe and J. D. Locke.
She is survived by her children, Elaine and husband, Nathan Smith, Larry Timothy and Wanda Dunlap; five grandchildren and seven great grandchildren and an eighth on the way. She is also survived by her dear friend, “adopted” daughter and devoted caregiver, Sue Babb, to whom we will be eternally grateful; her sister, Jessie Welch; special sister-in-law, Frances Timothy; brothers-in-law, Boyce and Leroy Timothy; special friend Jeanette Pierson and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, November 14, 2012 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Bayview Fisher-Pou Chapel.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, November 15, 2012 at Bayview Fisher-Pou Chapel with her great nephew, Rev. Alvin Bethea and Rev. Fred Stallworth officiating.
Serving as pallbearers will be her grandsons, Tim Smith, Jay Dunlap and Kevin Dunlap; and nephews, Furney Locke, Earl Locke and Jimmie Holder.
The family offers its sincere thanks to the staff of Covenant Hospice for their assistance in caring for her at home, which was her wish.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Covenant Hospice, 5041 N. 12th Avenue, Pensacola, FL 32503.
BAYVIEW FISHER-POU CHAPEL, 3351 Scenic Hwy., is entrusted with arrangements.
Condolences may be offered at www.bayviewfisher-pouchapel.com.
