Mary C Hoey

Mary (Calhoun) Hoey, age 87 passed away at home with her loving husband of 69 years beside her on December 28, 2023. She was born January 31, 1936 in Hattiesburg, Mississippi to James and Ruth (Holleman) Calhoun. She graduated from Hattiesburg High School in 1954.

Mary married her sweetheart, Stanislaus (Stan) Hoey, on June 19, 1954. After they were married he was commissioned in the Army. She was a military wife for 30 years, supporting him on all his assignments and moving from state to state or country. She was active in the military wives club at each post. Mary's favorite assignments were to Germany. Stan had three assignments there over his career. While there, she loved to travel and visit other countries. When he was away on year long hardship tour, she was both Mom and Dad to their four children and held the household together. When Stan retired, they settled down permanently in Pensacola, Florida.

Mary did numerous things over her lifetime. However, later in life her passions included collecting vintage Barbie Dolls and buying costume jewelry to design works of art and having them framed.

She is survived by her husband, stan; four children : Valine, Lori, James (wife Kendra) and William (wife Lisa); 10 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Doctors without Borders, Boys Town, or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

A visitation for Mary will be held Friday, January 5, 2024 from 10:30 AM to 11:00 AM at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 10650 Gulf Beach Highway, Pensacola, FL 32507. A funeral mass will occur Friday, January 5, 2024 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM, 10650 Gulf Beach Highway, Pensacola, FL 32507. An interment will occur Friday, January 5, 2024 at 1:00 PM at Eastern Gate Memorial Gardens, 1985 West Nine Mile Road, Pensacola, FL 32534.
