Mary Ann Ingvalson Averitte, 79, passed away Dec. 15. Mary Ann spent the first years of her life in Iowa before moving with her family across the state line to Spring Grove, Minnesota, where she resided until attending Winona Business College. An avid dancer, Mary Ann met her life partner, Bill Averitte, at a Lawrence Welk dance in 1951 and the two were married in 1953. They lived in North Carolina, Vermont and finally Pensacola. Mary Ann worked for many years and retired from then Pensacola Junior College, where she was a loyal basketball booster. She was an active member of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Milton, where she served as a Sunday school teacher and on various committees as well as Pensacola Women’s Connection. She and Bill enjoyed entertaining, socializing, traveling and gardening. Mary Ann loved board games, maps and the color blue. She was a proud Norwegian and loved to sing “The Iowa Corn Song” to pay tribute to her home state. The family would like to thank the many loving caregivers at Life Care Center of Pensacola and also Mary Cullen. She is survived by her husband, Bill Averitte; daughter Allison Averitte McCrory (Alex McCrory); granddaughter Kendall McCrory of Cantonment; and grandsons Troy Averitte of Destin and Stephen McCrory of Cantonment as well as many faithful friends. She is preceded in death by her sons Bryce and Brent Averitte and her grandson Chad Averitte. A memorial service will be held at Bayview Chapel-Fisher Pou Chapel Dec. 23 at 11 a.m. Condolences may be offered at www.bayviewfisher-pouchapel.com.
