Juanita Halterman, 92, of Pensacola passed away on Saturday, March 7, 2015. Born Juanita Pearl Childs in 1922, she grew up in Potts Creek, Virginia. She was a graduate of Covington High School in Covington, Virginia, class of 1940. She married her husband and soulmate, Bernard Halterman, in 1948 and was united in marriage with him until her passing.
Juanita and Bernard settled in Arlington, Virginia, and raised three children together. She was a devoted wife and loving mother. She was also a valued employee at People’s Drug in northern Virginia, where she worked as the inventory control manager for many years until she retired in 1985. The happily married couple spent retired life in Arlington, Virginia and Gettysburg, Pennsylvania before moving to Pensacola a decade ago to be closer to her youngest son James.
Juanita is preceded in death by her parents, James Emmanuel Childs and Hilda Jones Childs, as well as three siblings and one grandchild. She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Bernard Halterman, and her three sons: Austin Hines, Jr., of Martinsburg, W. Va.; Bernard Halterman, Jr., of Alexandria, Va.; and James (Janet) Halterman, Sr., of Pensacola, Fla. Additionally, she is survived by nine grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be Wednesday, March 11, 2015 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Oak Lawn Funeral Home at 619 N. New Warrington Rd. in Pensacola. Funeral services will be Thursday, March 12, 2015 at 9:30 a.m. at Oak Lawn Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Barrancas National Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Clifford Oram; Jason Halterman; James Halterman, Jr.; Brett Oram; Rick Kensell; and Ray Ramos.
