1939 – 2012
Joe F. Monteith, 73, of Pensacola, FL was called home by his heavenly Father on October 23, 2012, after a long battle with cancer.
He was born in Almond, NC on May 19, 1939 to Herman and Mae Monteith. After high school Joe joined the U. S. Navy as an Aviation Electronics Technician, earning many awards and commendations, and retired as a Senior Chief Petty Officer in 1979. He earned a Bachelor’s Degree from Troy State University and continued working on the airplanes he loved until retiring again in 2004. He was a member of Pensacola First Assembly of God. Because of his love and devotion to his Christian faith he served in many capacities in his church.
Joe was preceded in death by his aforementioned parents and brothers, Kenneth, Oliver and Avery.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 37 years, Oleda Jordan Monteith; his daughter, Lynn Monteith Denson and her husband, Ron; daughter, Kimberly Brown Johns and her husband Aaron; daughter, Pamela Stier and her husband Neil; grandchildren, Michelle Denson, Matthew Denson (Trista), Giovanna Johns, James Johns, Johnathan Johns, Angela Stier and Jeremy Stier; great grandchildren, Desirea Yates, DJ Yates and Pepaw’s girl, Addison Denson; sisters, Maxine Bevins, Norma Herno and Annette Farmer; brothers, Reid Monteith and Larry Monteith; numerous nieces and nephews; and many treasured friends.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 28, 2012 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., at First Assembly of God Church, Pensacola, FL.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 29, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at First Assembly of God Church, Pensacola, FL with interment to follow at Barrancas National Cemetery aboard Naval Airstation Pensacola at 12:30 p.m. with full military honors.
The family would like to thank Dr. Inclan, Dr. Bujnoski and the staff of The Woodlands Medical Specialist for their compassion and loving care.
