Joe Douglas Dye, known by many as Doug, returned to God, His creator, on Sunday, December 4, 2022, at his home in Pensacola, Florida with his loving wife of 38 years, Sherry, by his side. Doug was born on September 13, 1959, in Grenada, MS, to Shelby Joe Dye and Wilma Joan Dye. Doug grew up in Calhoun City, MS and loved playing baseball in the summer city league as a catcher and relief pitcher. He attended Calhoun City High School, was a member of the beta club, and played the trumpet in the Calhoun City High School Band. Doug graduated high school in 1977 and went on to attend Mississippi State University. In 1981, he graduated in the top of his class with a degree in Civil Engineering and began work with Rust Engineering in Birmingham, AL. In 1983 he moved to Pensacola, FL where he met his sweetheart, then Sherry McQuaig, at church. They married on October 20, 1984, and in March 1988, moved to Greenville, SC where they lived for some 33 years. Doug secured a job with his dream company, the international engineering firm Fluor, Inc. During his years with Fluor, he worked as both a structural and a rigging engineer. In total, Doug worked as an engineer for 33 years on projects nationwide as well as all over the world. It is safe to say he left his mark on many buildings, bridges, nuclear power plants and other architectural structures around the world before retiring due to health reasons in 2017. Aside from his engineering passion, Doug enjoyed assembling jigsaw puzzles. He loved to play chess and could often be found studying various tactics used by other players. Doug also had a deep passion for golfing and could routinely be found on the links playing with his golf pals at many local courses. But above all, Doug loved his family.
