Jewell Nolin Wright passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 9, 2019. Jewell was born in Elba, Alabama December 7, 1924. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 57 years, L.D. (Dick) Wright and siblings Clara Gorum, Zin Nolin and A.N. Nolin.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Patty; three grandchildren, Patrick (Jessica) Gleason, Sean (Hannah) Gleason and Katie (Jeremiah) Valdez and five great-grandchildren: Addie Gleason, Chris Valdez, Brody Gleason, Aubree Valdez and Logan Gleason.
Jewell is also survived by four siblings, Win (Jean) Nolin, Sylvia (Jerome) Upton, Jeanette (Bob) Valdesuso and Dewayne (Anne) Nolin.
Jewell’s greatest joy was her family. She had a kind, serving spirit and put others before herself. Jewell was famous for her delicious chicken and dumplings and banana pudding. At family gatherings, it was understood that Jewell was bringing the chicken and dumplings.
She did not seek attention for herself but quietly ministered alongside her husband, Dick as a deacon’s wife, holding prayer meetings and Bible studies in the home or at church. She was active in many church ministries over the years. In her younger years she volunteered in children’s ministries and faithfully served in VBS each summer. In later times, she helped with the hearing aid ministry and Cookie Ministry at East Brent Baptist Church.
A celebration of life will take place Sunday, March 17, 2019. Family and friends are welcome to visit at 2:00 p.m. and the service will take place at 3:00 p.m.
