Jeffery was born in Demopolis, Alabama and moved to Opelika, Alabama in 1973. Immediately upon his graduation from Opelika High School in 1980, he began proudly serving his country in the United States Navy as a Torpedoman Submariner. Jeff was originally stationed in Pensacola in 1992, and subsequently retired there as Master Chief Petty Officer in 2003. He heroically and triumphantly battled brain cancer in 2005. Jeff enjoyed traveling, spending time with family and many friends, navigating the open seas in his houseboat, and watching his grandson play sports. After becoming a Christian at an early age, Jeff put his faith in the Lord and was a member of Innerarity Point Baptist Church until his passing.
Jeff is survived by his wife of over 40 years, Maureen, their two daughters Chantal Smith (Jeramy) and Lindsey Lee. He also leaves behind his parents Leo and Voncile Nichols, his brother Barry Nichols (Debbie), mother-in-law Joyce Pickel, sister-in-law Cathe Stearns (Nick Wilson), brother-in-law Ted McDonald, grandsons Jeramy Jr. and Caleb, as well as countless friends and extended family.
Jeff touched the lives of many and left an impact that will never be forgotten. Although he was taken far too soon, his family takes peace in knowing that he is now resting in God’s arms.
