Gera “Maxine” Pittman was born in Kokomo Mississippi, on June 19, 1920. Maxine had 8 siblings, each of whom she loved and spoke of often. She married Fletcher Blalock in 1941 and gained two step-children, Fletcher and Mary. Soon after marrying, Fletcher and Maxine moved to New Orleans, LA where they began their family with a son and two daughters; Albert, Linda, and Lynne. In 1961, the family relocated to Pensacola, Florida where her family would grow up and expand. Pensacola quickly became their home and appropriately, the place that both Fletcher and Maxine would one day be laid to rest side by side.
Maxine loved the Gulf of Mexico, the Blue Angels, cooking and reading recipes, supporting local restaurants and family gatherings of all kinds! Dancing, painting, listening to music, living on the bayou Texar, and enjoying a good laugh amongst loved ones were just a few of her very favorite past times. She attended her church, Heights Baptist Church, faithfully through the years and held her own faith in such high regard. Always hoping her family would share in it. In her later years, she was graced with companionship and kindness by her loving caretaker and friend, Viola Williams. On June 19th, 2020, many of her family and friends gathered together for a socially distanced 100th birthday party at her place of residence. She wore yellow to match the theme of her party and waved to her guests like a queen. Her greatest joy of all was for her family to be well fed and to have their hearts remain full.
Gera Maxine Blalock entered heaven in the late afternoon of Tuesday, August 11th, 2020. Maxine was predeceased by her husband, Fletcher, her son, Albert, and her step-children, Fletcher and Mary(Robert).
She is lovingly remembered by her daughters, Linda and Lynne(Ramon), her daughters in-law, Garnet and Cecelia, and her 18 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, 8 great-great grandchildren, cousins, nephews, nieces, spouses, caretaker, and many others friends she held dear.
