Esther Mae Gilbert, 89, passed away gently in her sleep at her home surrounded by her family September 7, 2023. Born to William Owens and Vinnie Bishop in Pace, Florida on November 10, 1933. She grew up as a farmers daughter during the Great Depression and as such was no stranger to hard work from the early sugar cane fields of the family farm to a bakery the bus stop lunch counter then successful restauranteur. She listened intently to the stories of the travelers passing through the very small town of Milton on the main thoroughfare to Central and South Florida. Growing up in true hardship proved only to make her more resilient and determined for a better life for her children. Her work ethic and devotion were lessons to us and are unmatched in society today. Esther was preceded in death by the love of her life, her husband of 45 years, Charles R Gilbert her daughter Barbara Joyce Bowman, her sisters; Francis, Lizzie, and Rosie and brother JW Owens. She is dearly missed by her remaining children (Marilyn Elizabeth) and Michael Graham of Milton, (Kenneth Charles)and Tammy DuBose of Tulsa Ok, (Gary Allan) and Joyce DuBose of Cantonment, FL, Dr. and Mrs. Darrell and (Francille Mae)Pugh, of The Villages, Fl. Six grandchildren Christopher Chavers, Starsky DuBose, Jennifer Rollo, Johnathon Lay, Brittany Woodliff, Casey DuBose and Five great-grandchildren, Aadyn and Gavin Rollo , Barbara Joyce, Hannah and Emma Woodliff. If asked Esther would tell you she had a wonderful life, loved raising her children even through the rough times she said one hug even if exhausted made it all worth while. She met and married the love of her life and together they traveled the United States and extensively abroad. After our step father’s passing our brothers convinced her to move closer and with their decision and Gary’s exceptional care she was able to remain independent enjoying her days with visits from her children grandchildren extended family and truly wonderful neighbors whom we thank for their watchful eyes and time shared with her. Thank you Woodbreeze Angels for your special kindness!
We would like to thank all our prayer warriors that were praying for my family.
