Liz was known by many friends for her great sense of humor and excellent advice to others. Even though she had one son and one daughter, her mothering influence was upon many of her children’s friends, her nephews, and nieces. She was an avid gardener and loved to play games –especially card games.
She was an active and founding member of Holy Cross Episcopal Church. Mrs. Bonifay was a former owner of Ferry Pass Ace Hardware and Garden Center and was employed by STA in Santa Rosa County where she enjoyed working as a bus aide for ESE buses.
Liz was preceded in death by her husband of almost 51 years, Kurt E. Bonifay of Pensacola; and her parents James D. (Flora) Taylor of Florence, MS and Pensacola.
She is survived by her son, Rhett (Tina) Bonifay, of Pace, FL and her daughter, Sarah (Ernie) Tarkus, of Pensacola; two sisters, Patricia Whitfield of Mobile, AL, and Rebecca (Charlie) Nye of Pensacola. She is also survived by three grandchildren, Savannah and Seanna Bonifay, of Pace, and James Tarkus, of Pensacola.
The family will receive friends at Bayview Fisher-Pou Chapel at 3351 Scenic Highway on Friday from 5:00-8:00 p.m.
Funeral services will be held at Holy Cross Episcopal Church at 7979 N. 9th Avenue on Saturday, January 18 at 2:00 p.m., with Father Rob Dixon officiating.
Pallbearers will be Terry Brunson, Dean Craig, John Hartley, Tony Kimmons, Tommy Raines, and Steve Ramirez. Interment will be at the cemetery immediately following the service.
The family wishes to acknowledge the staff at Covenant Hospice of West Florida Hospital. The staff made our beloved mother comfortable and took excellent care of our family. We are very grateful.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Holy Cross Episcopal Church in honor of Elizabeth Bonifay.
