Mr. Moering, the son of Eddie Chrisfried and Marie Schulze Moehring, was born in Houston, Texas, where he lived until joining the Navy at age 17. First stationed in Pensacola in 1940, he married and raised his family there, living in his Warrington home for 66 years.
In 1937 he was assigned to the USS Wright supporting naval seaplane squadrons on the California coast. He rose quickly in rank to CPO in aviation mechanics and worked in fleet maintenance in Jacksonville and Pensacola. A veteran of World War II, he served in the Pacific Islands. After retiring from the Navy with 20 years of service, he began a 20 year Civil Service career as a machinist at NAS Pensacola.
He was a member of the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry Naval Lodge No. 24. He enjoyed hunting and fishing in the Florida panhandle as much as he did growing up in Texas.
His wife of 45 years, Hazel Mitchell Moering of Pace, Florida, preceded him in death in 1990. He is survived by his son, Carl Moering and wife Carolyn of Atlanta, and by his daughter, Dianne Shiver and husband Jim of Pensacola; grandchildren, Carl Moering and wife Wynn of Jupiter, FL, Cathryn Stauffer and husband Chris of Tampa, Christopher Moering of Orlando, Edmund McCombs and wife Ava of Pensacola, Michael McCombs of Pensacola, Roger McCombs, Brian McCombs and wife Tia of Pensacola.
He was proud of his many great-grandchildren and several great great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Monday evening, June 6, 2016, beginning at 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Oak Lawn Funeral Home, 619 New Warrington Road, Pensacola. A memorial service will be at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday morning, June 7, at the funeral home, with burial service to follow at Barrancas National Cemetery, Pensacola NAS.
