Donnie Smith Serig, 87, of Pensacola, Florida was welcomed into the arms of her Heavenly Father on Tuesday, June 29th, 2021. Donnie was born December 30, 1933, in Conecuh County, AL. She grew up in Atmore, AL., graduating high school in 1952. She enjoyed being a cheerleader, was popular among her classmates and was voted Most Friendly Student. Donnie then graduated from Birmingham Business College and was hired as one of the first one hundred employees on the payroll at Chemstrand Corporation. Donnie married Ward Serig, the love of her life, on October 30, 1955, and was a dedicated wife and mother throughout her years. She was an instrumental member of the Community of Christ Church where she selflessly served others making life long friendships. Donnie was loved by everyone and truly never met a stranger.
As a military wife, Donnie continued to build lasting friendships wherever Ward was stationed. Wherever you found Donnie, you found her surrounded by friends and people who loved her.
Her hobbies included photography and traveling with her husband. Some of the destinations she enjoyed were Hawaii, Alaska, Peru, Grand Cayman, Israel, Canada and Branson, Missouri. In addition, she loved her cruises to the Caribbean and Mediterranean.
Donnie saw the good in everyone and was deeply devoted to her family. She left behind a legacy of cherished memories made together with the ones she loved.
Donnie was preceded in death by her father, Mack Smith, mother, Bertha Smith Cochran and step-father, R.C. Cochran. She leaves behind her husband of 65 years, Retired Commander Ward E.K. Serig; her devoted sister, Joan Knight (Larry); son, Stephen Serig (Kathleen); daughter, Joy Wilson; son, Kendrick Serig (Lorrie); daughter Julie Mayo (Cliff); 10 grandchildren; Tyanna, Jill, Nathaniel, Crystal, Lauren, Hannah, Avi, Kira, Trustin and Carly; 2 step grandchildren, Jesse and Sarah; 12 great grandchildren; James, Michael, Abby, Jaxson, Micah, Noah, Olivia, Faith, Naomi, Collin, Finley, Torianna and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. Donnie was anxiously awaiting the arrival of a new great granddaughter, Mila.
Visitation will be on July 8, 2021, at 5:00 pm at Bayview Fisher-Pou Chapel, 3351 Scenic Highway 90e, Pensacola, FL. Funeral services will be held on July 9, 2021; viewing at 10:00 am, service at 11:00 am. Committal Service will be held on July 9, 2021, at 1:00 pm at Barrancas National Cemetery.
