David Edwin Herman, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, Army Colonel, neighbor, friend, parishioner, Kiwanian, passed away July 14, 2015. He was an angel on earth, as his family, we are a bit biased. David was born July 15, 1931 in St. Paul, Minnesota, he graduated from University of Minnesota in 1954 with a Bachelor of Science Pharmacy degree. Soon after graduation, he joined the United States Army. David was so hungry to start an adventurous life, he declined his admittance to the University of Minnesota Medical School. The U. S. Army took him to places he had dreamed of, Germany, Okinawa, Washington, DC, Hawaii, Kansas, and El Paso, Texas where he met his wife Rosa Herman, they eloped to Puerto Rico in 1956, Rosa passed away in 2013. David served as Executive Officer and Commanding Officer of the 32nd Medical Depot in the Republic of Vietnam, were he flushed out a VietCong medical theft ring. David retired from the U. S. Army in 1985. David and Rosa had three Army brats, Francis Carlos Luis, Edward James and Lisa Ann.
David and Rosa moved to Pensacola, Florida in 1990. They immersed themselves in life on Innerarity Point. They became involved in numerous organizations including, Holy Spirit Catholic Church, Friends of the Library and a Mardi Gras Krewe. Although he did not own a boat, David was elected Commodore of the Navy Yacht Club. David embraced the fellowship of Kiwanis, he recruited numerous members, and took great interest mentoring high school students through the Kiwanis Key Club. David and Rosa were very social, and loved entertaining their friends. They had numerous dinner parties at their house on the bayou, with lots of great food and signature libations. His Minnesota roots gave him appreciation for the beautiful colors of the bayou sunset, which he took pleasure in sharing with his friends and family. David was a good friend, and a great dad. David is survived by, his children, Frank, Ed and Lisa Herman, and their families, daughter-in-law Lori Herman, grand children, Michael, David, Audrey, Beth, Aaron and Amelia.
Services will be held, Thursday July 16th 10:30 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, burial will be at Barrancas Military Cemetery, Friday July 17th, at 9:30am.
