When he was 17 he joined The United States Army and served his country for 3 years. For 2 1⁄2 of those years, he served overseas in Frankfort, Germany working in communications and telephone installation. He was awarded the Army Occupation Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.
In 1958, he married the love of his life, Thelma Jean. Together they had 5 children; Rosa Sellers (Donnie), Curtis Faircloth Jr (Debbie), Bonnie Parker (Johnny), Theresa Faircloth, and Sandra Faircloth. He also had 9 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
In his younger days, he would load up the family to spend the day salt-water fishing at Johnson Beach, bringing home the catch of the day to have a family cook-out. When the family started to grow and grandkids appeared on the scene, he and Jean took them every summer to a water-park. He would ride the water slides with the best of them, finishing the day in the lazy river floating.
During the holidays, the family would gather together to enjoy one another’s company in the home he and Jean built together. His family meant the world to him and they knew it well. He was known to say each time, “it was so good to see you.”
He later retired from Masters Insulation Inc. and began spending time in his wood shop. He was an excellent carpenter and was always willing to lend a hand on any building project the family had going on. When his health no longer allowed time in the wood shop, he enjoyed going to bingo, playing his handheld solitaire, Yahtzee and slot games, puzzling, and watching The Andy Griffith Show.
He was preceded in death by his wife, two daughters, a grandson and a great-grandson.
He leaves behind a large loving family who will miss him terribly.
The family would like to say a special thank you to Dr. Alicia Chen and staff. You each provided excellence care to Grandpa for the past 19 years.
