Chalita earned a degree in biology from Newcombe College and, shortly before graduating, married her lifelong partner, JJ, who passed away in 1989. Known for her extraordinary musical talent, Chalita spent family and social gatherings seated at the piano surrounded by an appreciative audience.
With her best friend Rosemary Ryle, she formed the musical group "The Crock Sisters," who were sought after to perform their unique program of parodies and original songs at events from South Florida to New Orleans. In addition, Chalita led the choirs for a number of years at Sacred Heart Catholic Church and St. Ann’s in Belview.
She is survived by her five children, Barbara Withers (Richard), Tina Bond, John Baehr (Anne), Steve Baehr (Ellie) and Cynthia Baehr-Williams (John); five grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.
A service to celebrate Chalita's life will be held on Tuesday, October 15, at 3:00 PM at Bayview Memorial Park, with preceding visitation at 2:30 PM. Dinner and social time to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations to the American Cancer Society will be welcomed.
