Born in Phoenix, AZ, Ann grew up in Goldsboro NC, Tullahoma, TN; Washington, DC; Guatemala City, Guatemala and Dayton, OH as her father George pursued a career as an Air Force fighter pilot. She was an alumnus of Miami Valley Hospital School of Nursing (1985) and the University of West Florida (1987) earning a Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
She met her husband, Michael Prosperi, as a Naval Flight Student in Pensacola, and they were married May 23, 1987. She worked as a Nurse in Neonatal Intensive Care, Pediatric Acute Care, Family Practice, Bariatric Surgery, School Nursing and Trauma Surgery. She worked throughout her husband’s Naval career, moving from Pensacola, FL to San Diego, CA; Jacksonville, FL; Newport, RI; and Washington, DC, finally settling in Pensacola, FL upon her husband’s retirement, where she continued her career at Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola.
Ann is survived by her loving and devoted husband, CAPT Michael Prosperi, USN (Ret.); her son LT George Prosperi USN of Patuxent River, MD; her brother, LT Col. Raynor Garey, USAF (Ret.) of Greensboro, NC; and her parents: father LT Col. George Garey, USAF (Ret.) and mother Barbara Garey of Greensboro, NC.
A funeral mass to honor Ann will be celebrated at 12:00 pm on Thursday, August 18, 2022, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 1212 E Moreno St, Pensacola, Florida 32503. A Celebration of Life and Wake will follow at 1:30 pm at McGuire’s Irish Pub, 600 E. Gregory St., Pensacola, FL, 32502.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Alex Brown and the entire Oncology staff at Sacred Heart Cancer Center for their dedicated, compassionate and professional care during Ann’s arduous battle against cancer. In lieu of flowers, Ann wished that anyone interested would consider a donation to A Place of Hope Small Dog Rescue (aplaceofhoperescue.com), where she found her little companion Buddy.
