Mr. Shivers passed away Monday, February 18, 2019. He is preceded in death by his parents, William L. Shivers & Willie Mae Perkins Shivers; sisters, Mildred (Gilbert) Sheen, Elizabeth (Hugh) Wheelock; brother-in-law, Leroy Cleverdon.
He is survived by his wife, Kathleen B. Shivers; son, William L. Shivers, III; daughter, Lila Elizabeth Shivers; sister, Frances Cleverdon; and many nieces and nephews.
After graduating from Perry County High School, Bill joined the AirForce. He then received his degree from UAB in engineering and dedicated his professional life to working at Rust Engineering in Birmingham, Weyerhaeuser Co. in Seattle, WA, and finally at BE&K Engineering in Birmingham. After retiring early, he traveled extensively with his wife, became an accomplished woodworker and served the Alabama Woodworker's Assn. as their president. Mr. Shivers was also very supportive of the St. Clair County Boys' Ranch, where he worked diligently to raise funds for their use and in order to raise awareness of the purpose of this invaluable, non profit organization. In addition, family meant everything to Bill Shivers and he found considerable joy and satisfaction pursuing Shivers' Family genealogy.
He lived a beautiful, full life and was a great friend to those who knew him and a loving husband and father who will be sorely missed.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Clair County Boys Ranch or Lakeside Hospice.
