Joseph Harold (Hal) Lunsford, 73, of Cropwell, Alabama, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, October 31, 2021, having received Christ at an early age. Hal was born in Pelham, GA on September 10, 1948 to Cecil and Weldon Snipes Lunsford. He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his brother James Patrick (Pat) Lunsford (Rita) and children; Tiffany Davidson (Nathan) of Fernandina Beach, FL , Kelly Phillips of Christchurch, New Zealand and Hayley Lunsford of Chelsea, AL; grandchildren Taylor Anne-Marie Wasmer, Audrey Grace Phillips, Joseph Landon Holcomb, Julian Castillo Phillips, Alexander Dodunski Phillips & Eva Marie Davidson. Hal graduated from Pelham High School in Pelham, GA in 1966 and was a 3 year letterman in football. He attended Auburn University and graduated in 1970 with a degree in Industrial Electrical Engineering and later earned a Master's Degree in Business from Samford University. He worked as an electrical engineer for Southern Company for 30 years until he retired. He then continued his career as an electrical engineer for Pike Engineering and recently celebrated his 20 year anniversary there. He was still a full time employee with Pike at the time of his passing. He is a member of Church of the Highlands Birmingham and served on their greeting team for many years. He served as an active member of the American Society of Heating, Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) for many years on the local, regional and national levels. He is also a member of Auburn Alumni Association and the Birmingham Ski Club and an avid fan of Auburn football. He loved attending Auburn games, skiing in Vail, Colorado, living on and boating on Logan Martin Lake with his family and friends and riding his motorcycles. His love of motorcycles began as a young man with the Cushman scooter he purchased to ride his paper route and later developed into a love of Harleys. Most of all, Hal adored his family and was a loving father, granddaddy, and a loyal and generous friend to many. The family would like to thank St. Vincent’s Hospital Birmingham medical team including Palliative and Supportive Care and each doctor, nurse and staff member that entered Hal’s room for their care, compassion and kindness. A Celebration of Life Service for Hal will be held on Friday, November 5, 2021, at 5:00 pm with a visitation beginning at 4:00 pm at Church of the Highlands - Grants Mill Campus – Chapel, 4700 Highlands Way, Birmingham, AL 35210. A Graveside Service will be held on Saturday, November 6, 2021 at 2:00 pm EST/1:00pm CST at Friendship Memorial Gardens, 426 N Friendship Avenue, Donalsonville, GA 39845.
