ASHVILLE – Doris Jean Lett Tidwell died March 25, 2023, a month shy of attaining 95 years of age, in her Ashville home of 66 years. Jean was born in Tallahassee, Florida, lived in Montgomery, Alabama when she was young, but resided most of her life in Ashville, Alabama. Jean was raised to have a deep love and respect for the Bible. Jean was a Baptist Sunday School teacher until, one day, two of Jehovah’s Witnesses called at Jean’s door and Jean believed she could help them to better understand the Bible. Instead, after studying the Bible several months with the Witnesses, it was Jean who was being baptized on July 4, 1944, as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses. Jean married the love of her life, Johnnie, on February 3, 1947, and spent seventy-six years preaching in Memphis, Tennessee, as well as Blount, St. Clair, and Montgomery Counties in Alabama. Jean preached the message Jesus brought to us regarding Jehovah God’s Kingdom at Matthew 6 : 9 & 10, “Our Father in the heavens, let your name be sanctified. Let your Kingdom come. Let your will take place, as in heaven, also on earth.” Jean believed God’s Kingdom is the only answer to all of mankind’s problems on this earth.
Jean was the daughter of Levis Lett and Aileen Helling (née Fountain), both of whom preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her beloved husband, Johnnie Harrison Tidwell, and her brother, Mark Lett.
Jean is survived by her son, J. Demarrah Tidwell (Donna) and her daughter, Deborrah Jean Tidwell Davidson (Wayne), both of Ashville, Alabama; grandchildren, Angela Davidson, Sonja Brownlee (Duane), Nicole Shaver, and Danielle McKim (Sanford); great-grandchildren, Courtney Brownlee, Savannah Ray, Tristan Ray, Brooklyn Fowler, and John McKim; and step-great-grandchildren Noel Gillette, Hannah McKim, and Katie McKim.
