Gerald Lawrence Tucker met his Savior October 27, 2022. He was born November 6, 1035 at his home near Springville, Alabama. He was predeceased by his parents: Leona Frances (Autrey) and Alvin Richmond Tucker; his brother: Hobart Stanley Tucker; his sister: Mary Frances Lowe; and his daughter: Donna Madelyne Tucker.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years: Sandra Lamar Tucker; his two children: Janice Tucker Simmons (Johnny) and Marshall Lamar Tucker (Brandy); his two brothers: Uell Eugene Tucker (Carol) and James Alvin Tucker (Palma); sister-in-law: Edith B. Tucker; grandchildren: Micah Simmons (Elizabeth), Lindsey Jackson (Jason), Diamond Elizabeth Colley (Josh), Marshall Houston Tucker (Carissa), and Brendan Wesley Tucker; and his great-grandchildren: Tucker & Sophie Simmons, Madelyne, Ashlynn & Katelyn Jackson and Harper, Eli & Magnolia Colley.
He graduated from Springville High School in 1954 in a class of thirteen students. He entered Snead Junior College on a work scholarship. After two years, he transferred to the Alabama Polytechnic Institute (now Auburn University) where he majored in Civil and Structural Engineering. He volunteered for the draft and served two years in the US Army, 82nd Airborne Division making 31 jumps. He served in the 20th Special Forces for three years as a reserve.
After his military service, he returned to Auburn University and completed his degree in 1963. He worked for TVA, Rust Engineering and Birmingham Manufacturing. Gerald organized, owned and operated Omni Trailers, making all kinds of special trailers for customers all over the world.
Gerald helped design and poured concrete in the old football bleachers, he was President of the Lions Club and he served as a member of the St. Clair County School Board and helped them buy the property where the new high school is built. He served in many capacities in the Springville Methodist Church during the rebuilding of the Sanctuary and Education Building and helped behind the scenes with the CLC building. All the while he was clearing and building up his farm on Canoe Creek – The Awtrey, Tucker, Simmons Farm.
A graveside service will be at Springville Cemetery on Saturday, October 29, 2022 at 11:00 AM.
