Dewey loved God and the Baptist faith. He enjoyed square dancing with his best friend Bobby Barber. Dewey also enjoyed playing the guitar and bass with various musical groups. He was a member of the Ben M Jacobs Masonic Lodge 43 in Pell City and past master of the Birmala Masonic Lodge 836 in Birmingham.
Dewey is survived by his wife of 67 years, Margie Sears; his daughter: Sherry Sears; his grandchildren: Chris Treptau (Kim), Philip Treptau (Misty) and Alecia Cruzado (Julio); his great grandchildren: Destiny, Nyla, Noah, Aylin, Tristan, Jace, Adrian, Isabella, Leo and Caitlin; his great great grandchildren: Theo and Loralei; and his brothers: Larry Mitchell (Diane) and Greg Mitchell (Shawn).
Dewey was preceded in death by his son: Phillip Sears; his mother: Jewell Sears Mitchell; and his granddaughter: Heather Treptau.
A visitation for Dewey will be held Thursday, April 27, 2023 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Kilgroe Funeral Home. A graveside service will occur Friday, April 28, 2023 at 11:45 AM at Alabama National Cemetery with Andy Lambert officiating.
