When Faye was four years old, her family moved to East Thomas. She graduated from Ensley High School. On October 4, 1954, she married the love of her life, Thomas Gentry. They were married for 69 years. They resided in West End until 1972 before moving to Alabaster where they resided for over 50 years.
As a member of East Thomas Baptist Church before moving to Alabaster, Faye was active in the choir, a Sunday School teacher, VBS leader, and Church Training teacher. She then became a member of First Baptist Church of Alabaster. She was a member for over 50 years where she sang in the choir, was a member of the Joyful Hearts and participated in the Joyful Stitchers sewing group. She loved going to church, and she loved serving her Lord and Savior.
Faye loved her family. She loved spending time with her two daughters, her grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed taking trips to the mountains, crocheting, going to the lake, and watching Alabama Crimson Tide sports. She always looked forward to visits and outings with our dear friend, Jennifer Haga.
Faye was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Thomas Gentry, and by her parents, P.A. and Essie Mae Aldridge. She is survived by her daughters, Sheila Cleckler and Sharon Atkinson (Charlie); her grandchildren, Keith Culver (Lindy), Jason Parker (Lauren) and Jennifer Ponder (Tommy); her great-grandchildren, Mercy Culver Spire (Noble), Eve Culver, Hudson and Baylor Parker, and Parker Ponder; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Our family was blessed all these years with a sweet, wonderful, loving, caring, unselfish, beautiful mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Our hearts are broken, and our lives are a little more empty, but knowing she is in the presence of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and with her loving husband, gives us a peace that passeth all understanding.
Faye's family and friends will visit Tuesday, October 22, 2024 at First Baptist Church of Alabaster from 9:30-10:30 a.m., followed by A Service of Remembrance at 10:30 a.m. at the church, 903 3rd Ave NW, Alabaster, AL 35007. The gravesite committal service will be at 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, October 22, 2024 at Alabama National Cemetery, Highway 119 South, Montevallo, AL 35115.
