Tom was born on June 6, 1931, to the late Allison Richard and Bernice Knight Marshall in Connellsville, Pennsylvania. Tom is also preceded in death by his beloved wife, Donna Foulk Marshall; two brothers, James F. Marshall, MD & Robert E. Marshall; and one sister, Louisa Joyce Marshall.
Left to cherish his memory are his two children, John R. Marshall (Patricia) of Marietta, Georgia and Janette D. Marshall of Vestavia Hills; one grandchild, Sarah E. Marshall; his brother-in-law, Richard Foulk (Karen); many nieces and nephews.
Tom attended Penn State University in State College, PA where he received his BS degree in Civil Engineering and was a member of Sigma Pi Fraternity. He proudly served his country in the United States Army where he inspected the construction of orphanages and schools as part of the Armed Forces Aid to Korea. He was employed by Chicago Bridge & Iron Company for forty two and a half years as District Engineering Manager throughout the United States and Europe. He was a pioneer in engineering large scale cryogenic storage for the early space program. Tom was a member of and served in many organizations throughout his life including the Sons of the American Revolution, Chairman of the Board of Trustees at church, he was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels for fifteen years and an active executive in the Boy Scouts of America. In his youth, he earned his Eagle Scout and as an adult he was a recipient of the Silver Beaver Award French Creek Council BSA.
In his leisure, he enjoyed researching family genealogy, photography, reading, trout fishing, volunteer work, watching sports and mostly following his beloved Penn State Nittany Lions football team.
Tom was a faithful member of Cahaba Heights United Methodist Church and a devoted husband, father, grandfather and family man.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 13, 2021 at Southern Heritage Funeral Home at 2:00 p.m. followed by a Graveside service at Southern Heritage Cemetery at 3:00 p.m.
