Susan Loftin Morse of Hoover, Alabama, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 24,2022, following a lengthy illness. She was born December 30, 1947 in Mobile, Alabama, where she grew up swimming, skiing, and boating at her family residence on the fowl river.
Susan graduated from Murphy High School in Mobile and attended the University of South Alabama until she met and married her husband of 51 years, George Wray Morse, II, of Pensacola, Florida. They moved to Colorado shortly thereafter and she began professional modeling with Barbizon Modeling in Denver, Colorado, during the early 1970s. After moving back to Alabama, she continued modeling in numerous fashion shows in the Birmingham area for several charitable organizations.
Susan loved playing tennis and enjoyed league play throughout the Birmingham area until a back injury curtailed her participation. She also loved reading and was a member of the Friends of the Hoover Library. She was a former member of The Civiettes Club of Birmingham, the Chace Lake Country Club Ladies Tennis Association, the Woodmeadow Garden Club, and the Salvation Army Women's Auxiliary, working with both adults and children suffering with cerebral palsy. She spent many hours ringing a bell and collecting donations during the Christmas season as part of the Salvation Army's Red Kettle Program.
Susan also volunteered as a Docent at the Alabama Governor's Mansion for several years. She was a member of Hoover First United Methodist Church and sang in the choir for many years.
Susan was a loving wife and mother and will be remembered by her friends for her outgoing personality, her smile, and her graciousness. She was a compassionate care giver to those in need and was always quick to lend a hand without being asked.
Susan was preceded in death by her parents, William Harlan Loftin, Sr. and Mary Eugenia "Gene" Loftin of Mobile. Survivors include Susan's husband, George Wray Morse, II, and son, George Wray Morse, III, both of Hoover; two brothers, William Harlan Loftin, Jr. (Betsy) of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and John Kenneth Loftin (Nora) of Mobile; and several cousins, nieces, and nephews.
