Norman attended Auburn University and UAB. He participated in Air Force ROTC at Samford University. He was selected for pilot training at Columbus, Mississippi. After graduation, he served at Charleston, South Carolina Air Force Base. He flew C-17 and later C-141 planes. He flew during Operation Desert Storm, the Granada Invasion, and many other missions. In 2010, he moved to Florence and was previously employed at Alabama Career Center.
Norman was very patriotic and proud to serve his Country.
He was preceded in death by his father, James M. Powers, and Dad, Marlin C. Hinds; and grandparents, William P. and Laureen Powers, and Willa Dean and Gerald Hicks.
Survivors include Norman's mother, Barbara Ann T. Hinds; sister, Stacy Powers Reeder (Montrell); uncle, Carl Wayne Turner (Vernice); and many special cousins and friends.
A service will be held Saturday, July 8, 2023 at 11 a.m. at Vestavia Hills Methodist Church Chapel, 2061 Kentucky Avenue, Vestavia Hills, AL 35216. Immediately following the service, a reception will be held in the church's parlor.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to The Wounded Warriors Project, American Cancer Society, or another charity of your choice.
