She was born in Birmingham, Alabama, on September 3, 1945, to the late Christine Ellen and James Robert Killingsworth, Sr. Nan completed her undergraduate at Auburn University and then received her Master of Library of Science degree from the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. She was a librarian for over 40 years and spent 29 of those years as the Director at Albert L. Scott Library in Alabaster, Alabama.
Nan married the love of her life, Steve Abbott, on April 25, 1998, in Orange Beach, Alabama.
She was incredibly active and spent much of her time either swimming or walking. She also enjoyed going to the beach and shopping. Nan was a member of the Sassy Sisters, the Royal Hat Society, and the American Library Association.
Left to cherish her memory is her husband, Steve Abbott; her children, Clint and Shellye Thomas; Les Abbott; Jason Abbott and Deborah Abbott; and Cameron Jones; along with her grandchildren, Zoe Thomas; Sterling Thomas; Trinity Thomas; Ashley Abbott; Luke Abbott; Ted Jones; and Audrey Abbott. Her brother, James Robert Killingsworth, Jr., and other family members, Bart Killingsworth, Brad Killingsworth, Andy and Brett Paige, also survive her.
Nan's funeral services will occur at Christian Life Church (2490 Valleydale Rd. Hoover, AL 35244) on Thursday, June 3, 2021, at noon, with visitation beginning at 11:00 am. Burial will follow at Alabama National Cemetery in Montevallo, Alabama.
