Lee Marcus Comer, age 87, of Birmingham, AL, passed away peacefully in his home on March 5, 2022, surrounded by his loving family and with the blessed assurance of eternal life in his Lord Jesus Christ. Lee was born on February 6, 1935, in Selma, AL, to the late James Edward Comer and Lula Mae Hitchcock Comer and is preceded in death by his sister Evelyn Comer Woolsey and brother James Edward Comer, Jr.
In his early years, Lee was a cheerleader at Selma High School. He attended Auburn University, where he graduated in 1957 with a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Management in the School of Engineering. While at Auburn, he was an officer of Kappa Sigma fraternity and a member of the Air Force ROTC where he was commissioned as an officer. Lee proudly served his country in the United States Air Force and retired from BellSouth after a 37-year career.
Lee was united in holy matrimony with Cynthia Tanner on November 22, 1969, in Mobile, AL. Their fifty-two yearlong marriage was blessed with three children and four grandchildren. He adored his wife, children, and grandchildren and enjoyed spending time with his family and attending church. A do-it-yourselfer at heart, he had a passion for collecting antique cars and furniture and historical guns.
He is survived by his wife Cynthia Tanner Comer, his son Lee Marcus Comer, Jr., (Kristen) of Vestavia Hills, daughter Sharon Comer Bullock (Jim) of Vestavia Hills, son Richard Edward Comer of Helena, and grandchildren James Burch Bullock, Jr., Sarah Lucille Comer, Laura Grace Bullock, and James Marcus Comer.
Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 10, at Christ the King Anglican Church (2250 Blue Ridge Blvd., Hoover, AL 35226). Friends and family are invited to a visitation before the service at 9:30 a.m. Burial will follow at New Live Oak Cemetery in Selma, AL, at approximately 1:00 p.m.
