Miss Karen Elizabeth Emanuel was born in Ft. Walton Beach, Florida on Thanksgiving Day, November 23, 1972. She died in Birmingham, Alabama at UAB Hospital on Saturday, December 10, 2022 after a long illness.
The family will greet friends at the Episcopal Church of the Ascension in Vestavia Hills, Alabama on Friday, December 16, 2022 from 10-11 a.m., followed by A Service of Remembrance at 11 a.m. at the church, 1912 Canyon Rd., Vestavia Hills, AL 35216.
During her early childhood, Karen worshipped at St. Paul's Episcopal Church and attended St. Paul's Episcopal School until the seventh grade. Her family later moved to Vestavia Hills, where she attended Vestavia Hills High School, Jacksonville State University, and UAB.
Karen was always an outgoing person and enjoyed a career as a marketing representative for several radio and television stations in Birmingham, Pensacola, New Orleans, and New York. She suffered with liver disease for many years, in addition to a mid-life stroke.
In recent years, she was an advocate for animals and a huge animal lover. She recently adopted a senior dog named Lily.
Karen was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Edward Burton Emanuel and Julia McMillan Emanuel, and her maternal grandparents, Lawrence Winfree Murray and Harriet Rossman Murray.
Survivors include Karen's mother, Evelyn Murray Emanuel; father, Edwin Aubrey Emanuel; step-mother, Deborah Hays Emanuel; sister, Katheryn Emanuel Ferrell; brother-in-law, William Eric Ferrell; niece, Taylor Ann Ferrell; nephew, William Eric Ferrell, Jr.; step-brother, Brent Hays; sister-in-law, Denise Hays; step-brother, Michael Hays; step-niece, Tatum Hays; and multiple aunts, uncles, and other cousins.
