John D. Carpenter, 72, passed away on June 5, 2021 after a long battle with complications resulting from a stroke. John was born to Dale and Eloise Carpenter in Zanesville, Ohio. John graduated from Heath High School, where he excelled in academics while playing basketball, baseball, and golf. He earned his B.S. in Business Administration and graduated Summa Cum Laude at Bowling Green State University. BGSU is also where John met his loving wife, Pamela Carpenter. John went on to earn his M.S. at the University of Illinois and was a James Webb Young Scholar. He started his career at Needham Harper & Steers Advertising in Chicago and later worked at the J. M. Smucker Company (Smucker’s) in Ohio as the Director of Marketing Services. John and his family eventually moved to Birmingham, Alabama where he later retired from Slaughter Group as the Vice President of Marketing and Strategic Planning.
John was a loving husband and father who wanted the best for everyone. Many remember his love for watching his daughter play softball and the stories he shared about his family’s trips and milestones. He loved traveling with his family, getting breakfast at Edgar’s Bakery, and watching sports. John was a member of Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church and often served as an usher on many Sundays.
John is preceded in death by his mother and father; sister and brother-in-law Annette Spinks (Tom); brother Alan Parry; nephew Richard Parry; and niece Carole Parry. John is survived by his wife Pam; daughters Amanda and Erin; brothers-in-law Kevin and David Brown; sisters-in-law Nancy Parry, Wendy Brown, and Julie Brown; and many nieces and nephews.
