"Jenny" was preceded in death by her father, Joseph James Wells; mother, Mary Ann Oden Wells; brother, Joseph Lance Wells; and nephew, Joseph Warren Wells. All of them are of Montgomery, Alabama.
Survivors include Jenny's husband, John Daniel "Dan" Burdick of Pelham; son, John Beaumont "Beau" Burdick and daughter-in-law, Ma-Trice Outlaw Burdick, both of Spanish Fort, Alabama; daughter, Kathryn Leigh Burdick of Nashville, Tennessee; daughter, Madeline Burdick Crowe and son-in-law, Jeremy Jerome Crowe, both of Alabaster, Alabama; sister, Sandra Hammock (Ray) of Fairhope, Alabama; sister, Cindy Waldrop (David) of Houston, Texas; brother-in-law, Mike Burdick (Aime) of Wylie, Texas; and sister-in-law, Faye Wells of Montgomery. She had numerous nephews and nieces whom she dearly loved.
Jenny was so proud of her three children and how God had blessed them in their building of loving families. She dearly loved her nine grandchildren, Farrah, Pearl, Wynn, and Oden Russell, Auburn (Birdie) and Beatrice Burdick of Nashville, Jackson Burdick of Spanish Fort, and Evelynn and Dorothy Crowe of Alabaster.
Jenny was a wonderful educator, having received her undergraduate degree in education from Auburn University (‘78) and a graduate degree in learning disabilities from Jacksonville State University (‘80). She was a member of First Baptist Church of Pelham. She loved her faith family, choir, and her Sunday and Thursday morning Bible study groups. She was faithful in praise to her Heavenly Father for surrounding her with continuous love and support.
Jenny's last 19 years of teaching were in private Christian education at Hickory Grove Baptist in Charlotte, North Carolina, and Briarwood Presbyterian in Birmingham. God blessed her with the attributes of love, compassion, and creativity which she used to develop and bring out the very best in all her students. She was forever grateful to Dr. Henry Ward of Hickory Grove Baptist Christian School and Dr. Byrle Kynerd of Briarwood Presbyterian Christian School for the opportunities to teach children the principles of Jesus Christ.
Jenny loved spending time teaching and learning with all her grandchildren. There was always fun craft and teaching seminars at “Camp Shug.” The love for Shug was always apparent from the kids. They knew she always had a loving solution for everything.
Jenny was blessed with an infectious personality and quick, lighthearted, loving wit that literally captured the attention of everyone she encountered. She never wanted attention brought to herself but was always seeking to serve others and had compassion for service. When you met her, you loved her.
She was the most devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, sister-in-law, aunt, niece, cousin, teacher, and friend. She believed in the power of prayer and would go before the Almighty daily. We all will miss her every day but look forward to our great reunion day.
Jenny's family will greet friends at First Baptist Church of Pelham, Alabama on Saturday, June 3, 2023 from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m., followed by A Service of Remembrance at 11 a.m. at the church.
