“Jim” was born on October 18, 1932 in Brent, Alabama to James C. Poole and Sarah Miriam (Reaves) Poole. In 1957 he married Marcelline Saffran Poole, his wife of 62 years. They had five children, 13 grandchildren, and 7 great-grandchildren with another on the way. Jim graduated from Alabama Polytechnic Institute (Auburn University) in 1954 with a degree in Electrical Engineering. He served three years in the Navy as a commissioned officer after graduation. In 1957 he married the love of his life, Marcie. They settled in Alabama when Jim started his job at Alabama Power. Jim retired in 1989 after more than 30 years. In retirement he enjoyed spending time with his family, traveling with Marcie, watching the grandchildren play sports, and all things Auburn. Jim enjoyed woodworking and was known for his green thumb. His gift of gardening was very evident in his beautiful plants and his yard. “Pop” will be remembered by us as the Patriarch of “our crazy family” and lovingly as a great man.
