Imogene Moore Johnson passed from this life into the next on Sunday, June 27, 2021, at her home in Vestavia Hills, Alabama at the age of 95. She had every hope and expectation of an eternal heavenly home.
The family will visit with friends from 10-11 a.m. on Thursday, July 1, 2021 at Ridout's Southern Heritage Funeral Home in Pelham, Alabama, followed by the funeral service at 11 a.m. at Ridout's Southern Heritage Chapel, Pelham. The family graveside service will be at Valhalla Cemetery in Midfield, Alabama.
Imogene was the much loved only child of Hugh and Edna Baker of New Hope, Alabama. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Aaron C. "Dick" Moore, and her second husband Jay F. Johnson. She was the quintessential daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, preacher's wife, and elder's wife.
She is survived by three daughters, Sandra Nicks (Richard), Sharon Craig (Ken), and Carol Maxson (Craig). She took great pleasure in watching her family grow with seven grandchildren, and sixteen great-grandchildren.
Everything Imogene did was guided by her great faith in Jesus Christ and her commitment to live as one professing godliness. She was the valedictorian of her high school and graduated from a business school in Huntsville, Alabama, before marrying A.C. Moore. She worked as a secretary and a caregiver as he finished Alabama Christian College and as Dick completed his Bible and History degrees at Harding Christian College in Arkansas. They worked with churches of Christ in Alabama, Georgia, and Tennessee throughout their marriage. Dick preached the gospel of Christ and did the work of an evangelist, and Imogene was a willing and skilled companion in that work and an exemplary homemaker.
After Dick's death, Imogene worked for 10 years with the Alabama Skills Center in Birmingham. She married Jay Johnson after her retirement, and they spent their marriage encouraging others to be faithful to the Lord.
She was always active in the Lord's church and enjoyed teaching Bible classes, especially girls' classes, and providing food for others. Her hobbies were cooking, gardening, and studying her Bible. Her family feels so blessed to have had her love and example for so many years.
The family of Imogene Moore Johnson would like to thank Pam Ragland and the caregivers at Sincere Home Care. They helped and encouraged us every step along this final journey with Mother.
