Gayle Hudgins Williams, 74, of Alabaster, Alabama, passed away at her home on July 25, 2021. Gayle was born on March 23, 1947, in Talladega, Alabama, the daughter of William Charlie and Verdell Peterson Hudgins. She graduated from Oxford High School in 1965.
Gayle attended Sylacauga Hospital School of Nursing and graduated in 1975. She worked as a Registered Nurse for over 35 years in many nursing areas. Caring for her patients, as well as their families, was her passion and brought her much joy.
Gayle was a member of Riverchase United Methodist Church in Hoover, Alabama, where she was active in the Crosspoint Sunday School Class, Riverchase Book Club, and UMW Agape Circle. She relied on her deep faith in the Lord throughout her illness.
She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, and grandmother. Gayle enjoyed reading and visiting with friends and family at Lake Martin. She adored her five grandchildren and always looked forward to spending time with them. They called her “Gi Gi.” Her vibrant personality and infectious laugh will be deeply missed by her friends, family, and everyone who knew her.
Gayle is preceded in her death by her parents, William and Verdell Hudgins. She is survived by her loving husband of 45 years, John C. Williams III, her daughters Holly (Randy) Willams Snuggs, of Hoover, AL, Diana (Jason) Williams Long, of Hoover, AL; grandchildren, Reid Snuggs, Katherine Snuggs, Tatum Long, Mallory Long, Lauren Long; sister-in-law, Nancy W. Powell; nieces, Ruth (Brian) P. Storts, Susan Powell ,and many cousins.
A funeral service will be held at Riverchase United Methodist Church in Hoover, Alabama at 11:00 AM on Thursday, July 29, 2021. Visitation will precede the funeral at the church at 10:00 AM. A family graveside service will follow at the Alabama National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider donating blood to your local community blood bank or make a contribution to Riverchase United Methodist Church.
