She was born on June 25, 1939, in Anniston, Alabama to the late Maurice Powell and Vera Jeffers Powell. Clara was a 1957 graduate of Anniston’s White Plains High School where she was affectionately known as “Clack”.
On October 26, 1961 she married Richard Dunham. Clara worked in the guidance department for John Carroll High School before retiring in 1995. She enjoyed spending her time traveling, shopping, and most importantly, spending time with her family and friends. And like most wonderful grandmothers, her grandchildren were the apple of her eye. The most important part of her life was her love for the Lord. Clara was dedicated to her church and was a faithful member of Metro Church of God. She never met a stranger and was always eager to help anyone in need.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Richard Jay Dunham; her brother, Joseph Powell; and her sister, Barbara Louise Waits.
Left to cherish her memory is her daughter, Kim Murphy (Derrick); her son, Kevin Dunham; and step-son, Richard Cavallaro (Lisa); four grandchildren, Austin Murphy; Davis Murphy; Molly Cavallaro Yeagley (Bryan); and Peter Cavallaro; and one great-grandchild, Ava Yeagley. She is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews; along with numerous friends.
Visitation will take place at Metropolitan Church of God on Saturday, January 14, 2023, from 10:30 am to 11:30 am with a service beginning at 11:30 am. Burial will follow at Currie-Jefferson Memorial Gardens on John Hawkins Parkway in Hoover, Alabama.
