Charlie Simpson, 85, of Hoover, passed away on Saturday, January 20, 2018. Charlie was born in Gadsden, AL and graduated from Jacksonville State. He was very involved with his children’s activities such as Scouts, PTA and various neighborhood organizations. He also served as a tireless volunteer for community organizations and was very active with Green Valley Baptist Church where he particularly enjoyed cooking for the men’s prayer breakfast every week. Charlie loved to travel, was an avid reader, and loved dogs. He was a faithful member of the Berry Boosters and of the Lions and Optimist Clubs. He worked as a contract administrator for the U.S Department of Defense for 35 years.
Mr. Simpson is preceded in death by his parents, Paul Jones Simpson and Erna Ruth Boen Simpson Currie. He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Sue Simpson; sons, Timothy Simpson (Bee) and Charles Simpson, Jr.; daughter, Sue Ellen Williams; and grandchildren, Ben Williams and Bryan Williams.
The celebration of Charlie’s life will be at 2pm on Thursday, January 25, 2018 at Southern Heritage Funeral Home in Pelham, with visitation beginning at 1pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Parkinson’s or Alzheimer’s charities.
