Charles was born in Chelsea, Alabama on August 7, 1933 to Floyd and Tennie Turner. He attended Vincent High School, where he met Wynell, played football and basketball, and drove a school bus.
Charles proudly served in the Korean War with the U.S. Army, and was stationed in Germany in the early 1950’s. As owner of Gas Meter Engineers, he enjoyed a successful meter and regulator service business in the natural gas industry for many years, providing service and friendship to gas companies across the state of Alabama.
Charles loved spending time with his family, watching Alabama Football, hunting, fishing, and traveling with friends. He and Wynell belonged to the Buttons and Bows Square Dance Club. He was also an active member at Liberty Baptist Church in Chelsea.
Charles had a heart for helping others. He will be known to all those who loved him as “Pop.” He was very loved and respected, and will be forever missed by all that knew him.
In addition to his wife, the former Wynell Davis, Charles was predeceased by his parents, Rufus Floyd Turner and Thelma Tennie Niven Turner, and one great-granddaughter, Caroline Nell Richardson.
Survivors include Charles' daughter, Tammy Cochran (Don); sister, Brenda Sears; brother, Junior Turner (Cathy); granddaughters, Brooke Cochran Richardson (Paul), Bethany Cochran McCandless (Gavin), and Bailey Cochran Whitfield (Austin); and great-grandchildren, Ansley Grace McCandless, Knox Alexander McCandless, Adley Hope McCandless, Carson Alexander Batizy, Caden Luke Batizy, and Brooks Davis Whitfield.
Visitation will be Tuesday, May 31, 2022, at Liberty Baptist Church in Chelsea from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. with A Service of Remembrance for Charles to immediately follow at the church. Burial will be at Liberty Baptist Church Cemetery.
